At Tamarack Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs we are dedicated to creating a healthy legacy. We have owned GSMD's since 2011.
We take great pride in producing healthy GSMD's as well as breeding to preserve the CKC Breed Standard.
We spend many weekends during the year traveling to Conformation Shows to Champion our dogs.
Our dogs are members of our family and spend every day interacting with us. Overall we want to create healthy balanced puppies without jeopardizing the health of our dogs.
We have spent a lot of time acquiring knowledge about the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog breed.
In hopes to creating the best of the Greater Swiss Mountain breed. Our dogs and their ancestors are health certified. To be added to our breeding program dogs must be screened by PennHip and OFA.
We have their hips, elbows, shoulders, patella and eyes tested.
The Greater Swiss Mountain Dog is considered to be a healthy breed, but it is important to note that all pure breeds & mixed breeds can develop health concerns. Not every dog should be bred, and by screening we hope to do our part in preserving this beautiful breed, while having minimum health issues.
This is a list of the health issues that have been found in the GSMD breed. Please research and understand them all.
Health Problems of the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog can include:
Hip Dysplasia
Elbow Dysplasia
Distichiasis and Entropion
Gastric Dilatation Volvoulus (GDV)-Bloat
Epilepsy
Licking Fits
Osteochondrosis Dissecans
Splenic Torsion
Urinary Incontinence
Cancer
Kidney Failure
All our puppies will be CKC registered, de-wormed, have a microchip implanted, first set of shots and a veterinarian health check before being re-homed at eight weeks or later.
The puppies are well socialized by our family including our children.
We are proud to offer lifetime support to all our puppy owners.
We practice the "Bio Sensor Program" known to the public as the "Super Dog" Program. Based on years of research, the military learned that early neurological stimulation exercises could have important and lasting effects. These five benefits have been observed in canines that were exposed to the Bio Sensor stimulation exercises. The benefits noted were:
1. Improved cardiovascular performance (heart rate)
2. Stronger heart beats,
3. Stronger adrenal glands,
4. More tolerance to stress, and 5. Greater resistance to disease. Generally, genetics account for about 35% of the performance, but the remaining 65% (management, training, nutrition) can make the difference to a great performing dog.
With limited litters per year, our babies are adopted quickly. If you are interested on getting on my waiting list, reach out to have a puppy application sent your way.
